Wildlife Watch 2017 line-up unveiled

Tuesdays will be wild days during the school summer holidays thanks to a busy schedule of events at one of South Derbyshire’s top attractions.

South Derbyshire District Council’s Environmental Education Team, based at Rosliston Forestry Centre, has revealed its family explorer Wildlife Watch programme for 2017, with sessions taking place each Tuesday between 2pm and 4pm.

First up is pond dipping on 1 August 2017, when families are invited to drop in to discover the wonders of what lies beneath the surface of the water. This session will be repeated on 22 August 2017 – just follow the signs to the lake.

Search for fascinating creatures on a ‘Minibeast Safari’ on 8 August 2017, when one of the habitats ripe for investigation will be the new wildflower meadows being created as part of the Wildflower and Hedgerow Explorers project, funded by the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.

Discover ‘Beautiful Butterflies’ on 15 August 2017 and round off the school break with a ‘Scavenger Hunt’ on 29 August 2017.

For each session, those taking part are urged to head to the on-site classroom between 2pm and 3pm to find out more. No booking is required.

The activities cost £2.50 per child or per set of equipment depending on the activity, and they are suitable for those aged four to 12. Children must be supervised by an adult who should be prepared to help them with the activities.
