Inspirational panel is lined up for annual celebration

The countdown is on to the fourth South Derbyshire International Women’s Day celebrations – with the 2017 offering set to be the best yet.

Organised by the South Derbyshire Domestic and Sexual Abuse Action Group, this year’s event, to be chaired by the district’s MP Heather Wheeler, is promising an inspirational all-female panel of speakers as well as a local services information area and health and business zones.

There will also be a quiz and prize draw on offer, with the chance to keep up to date with proceedings and share your experiences via the South Derbyshire International Women’s Day Twitter page @SDIWD

It takes place between noon and 2.30pm on Friday 3 March 2017 at Oakland Village, in Hall Farm Road, Swadlincote, with members of the public invited along and light refreshments to be served.

Chris Smith, Chairman of the South Derbyshire Domestic and Sexual Abuse Action Group, said: “International Women’s Day has actually been observed since the early 1900s and is described as a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

“The theme for 2017 is ‘Bold for Change’ as the campaign calls on people all around the world to play their part in creating a more inclusive, gender-equal society.

“We have some highly successful women doing some fantastic work here in South Derbyshire and we’re delighted to be able to take this opportunity to celebrate that.”

Among the stalls on the day will be ones hosted by Home-Start, The National Forest and the East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire).

The panel will include Emily Harrison, a community safety officer with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, and Pingle School pupil and motocross champion Skye Adams.
