More Makers Market magic in store after successful debut event

Farmers' Market April 2013 Farmers' Market April 2013

A specialist market that proved a major hit in its first month is back for a second instalment this weekend.

The Swadlincote Makers Market takes place along the High Street on Saturday 29 April 2017, and is again promising a variety of arts, crafts, food and drink.

Visitors snapped up everything from locally produced wines, cakes, jams and fudge to handmade children’s clothes, knitted gifts and vintage memorabilia last month at an event that runs alongside the normal market.

Singer Laura Jane Vintage will complement the shopping offering this time around, with live performances throughout the day.

Leanne Mace, one of three entrepreneurs who runs the Curly Magpie and Friends store in the High Street, has co-organised the event with Swadlincote Markets.

She said:

“The first Makers Market was very well received last month so, if you missed it, why not come along this weekend and find out what it’s all about?

“We want to encourage people to discover and support the many excellent independent traders we have in Swadlincote and this market really gives them a window of opportunity.

“There was a real family feel in March so we’d encourage people of all ages to turn out for a fun few hours.”

The Makers Market runs between 9am and 4pm on the last Saturday of the month from March to September and combines the popular farmers’ market, formerly held on a Thursday. Admission and car parking are free.

Forthcoming dates for the Makers Market are 27 May and 24 June 2017.
