Yeeee-ha! Make sure you're booked in for Liberation Day

Liberation Day 2016 Liberation Day 2016

South Derbyshire’s over-55s are in line for a rootin’, tootin’ time at a popular annual hoedown.

The fifteenth Liberation Day will feature the usual blend of music, nostalgia and information stands, with a country and western theme running throughout.

Gresley Old Hall is the host venue and organisers from the Safer South Derbyshire Partnership are promising a party atmosphere with a more serious side at the event, which this year takes place on Wednesday 17 May 2017.

Pre-booking is essential as places are strictly limited to 300. So anyone interested in attending is urged to call the registration phone line, which goes live on 6 March 2017, tel: 01283 595795.

Cllr Bob Wheeler, Chairman of the Safer South Derbyshire Partnership, said: “This will be the 15th time we’ve celebrated Liberation Day and each event lives long in the memory.

“It’s fantastic to see the older generation come together to both have fun in a relaxed atmosphere and access all sorts of advice on how to stay safe, active and healthy, as well as find local services that might be of benefit.

“I’m sure the live country and western music will get everyone tapping their cowboy boots and we look forward to welcoming everyone there.”

How to deal with doorstep callers, fire safety, mobility, fitness, health, pensions and more will be covered on the day, while exhibitors will include representatives from the police and fire service, South Derbyshire District Council’s Sport and Health team, South Derbyshire CVS and community and health services.

Pupils from the district’s secondary schools will be on hand to meet and greet guests and assist throughout the day, while during a free sandwich lunch speakers from some of the emergency services will be invited to talk about their areas of expertise.

Transport to and from the event, which runs from 10am to 2.30pm, will be provided without charge for those who need it.
